This weekend we went to a funeral of a young boy (18 years). No, I did not know him, I met him when he died. He was a young boy hanging around with his friend and did what most boys do at that age. Unfortunally they got in to a fight with other young boys which they knew, and the other boys had to "finish unfinished business" from two years ago. They finished it with a knife. So this weekend we went with a lot of children of the boys school to the funeral. The ceremony took place at the parents house in a tent. A lot of singing and praying. The ceremony took hours but still to short.....the same as the boys life.
The boy (17 years) who killed him is in jail.

The lemon tree
To much for us and so easy to share. Just from two trees in the garden of Gunter and Lizzy we got all these lemons. As we like lemon a lot we do not want to over do it. Lemon drink, lemon cake, lemon ice cubes, lemon sauce, lemon fish, lemon tea, lemon icetea....Ok enough, we need 15 lemons for all this....what do we do with 30-50 kg of lemons? well let´s bring it to people in the townships. Great idea and big fun !!!! And even one guy who help us out we discovered he is a great sales person. He just shouted FREE LEMON FRESH JUST FROM THE TREE, LEMON JUICE, FOR MOTHERSDAY......and yes they all wanted.....bags full with lemons. They use the lemon especially to mix it with the porridge so it tast better.
What a beautiful day........
A bed that fit in a house
Through an organisation that work with orphans we got a request for a bed. A family of 4, two parents two children sleep on just a mattress on top of some bricks. The floor is humid so the mattress as well, and when they sleep they all roll over to the middle. So as we have beds to distribute we went to bring this family a bed. Although the bed fills the whole house they are very happy with it.
This is the house, not just a room
Yes Gunter I will help you I am not just here to take pictures
This is the house but just half of it is for the family of four
The bed is big or the house small
The happy couple
and we are happy too. Sweet dreams
This is the house, not just a room
and we are happy too. Sweet dreams

It´s all new and not so new
Well I have been here now for over two weeks...It´s all new but on the other hand it´s not. I see people I met in august last year and some of them even remember me!!! I also meet new people, very friendly and intresting people. Also I met this young girl which is deaf, she tries to speak in sign language to me which I will have to learn soon. She gave me a name in sign language, first she makes a letter L with her fingers and than she makes a face with blown up cheeks and makes a movement with her hand next to it to make it look even more bigger......Children are so honest...Who ever says in your face BIG CHEEK...well it´s my name now. During the day I do a lot of research on the internet. Need to find a list of special schools around in this area, have to see what kind of organisations are working in the same area and much more...It´s a nice job to do but I do get frustrated because there is no clear structure. Well I will have to get use to it.
Been in some of the townships nearby, it was my first time. It was/is a great experience, the people live in small houses(some just a room size) but as South Africa is so beautifull they have a great view. A view we all dream of. But for all the people to get to their house they have to walk very far and also they do not have real roads to walk on and some even live down in a valley.Sometimes it takes 2 hours walk to go to school or work. Days begin ver early around 6 in the morning. And I thought I started early! This is it for now, will be back.....Big kiss

Arrival
Yes I arrived at South Africa, Durban !!!! It´s great. I have got a nice guesthouse which is big enough for me and some guest!!! The house is part of a land where the owner of the house have their main house. I have got some dogs walking around to take care of the people who are not allowed to walk on the land, they still have to get used to me being there but David Bowie (one of the dogs has one blue and brown eye) will be going to be my friend.I can walk from my house to our working place. It´s a 5 minute walk through beautiful landscape. I try to be at work at 08.00hrs, YES THAT IS EARLY FOR ME HAHAHAHA....but here the morning starts already at 06.00hrs. And I have no traffic jams any more !!! Maybe I will see a cow on the way or some monkeys that is it. Soon I will put some pictures on the weblog. Next week I will tell you more about every days "business".....not a day is the same.
